Plan your next Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince session
Our independent guide examines Trine 4’s core systems—hero powers, cooperative play, level structure, progression and presentation—so you can observe how each element fits together and make informed choices during your adventure.
01 / THE GUIDE
Element Interaction Log
Create a table listing each puzzle element (fire, water, light, magnets, electricity) and note which hero’s ability interacts with it. Compare notes across several levels to see patterns in design.
- Observe which hero’s power aligns with the visible element in a puzzle before committing.
- Switch characters early if an obstacle seems better suited to another ability.
02 / THE GUIDE
Co‑op Role Rotation
Play a session where each player uses a different hero, then rotate roles in the next session. Record how the change influences puzzle flow and teamwork.
- Coordinate hero selection so the team covers all elemental abilities.
- Use split‑screen to keep each player’s view focused on their current task.

03 / THE GUIDE
Skill Tree Allocation Test
Allocate upgrade points in three different ways—balanced, combat‑focused, and puzzle‑focused. Observe how each distribution impacts combat encounters and puzzle handling.
- Look for environmental cues that hint at the dominant element in a puzzle.
- Test each hero’s interaction with the element to discover the intended mechanic.
04 / THE GUIDE
Audio‑Visual Settings Trial
Adjust volume, subtitle and text size settings while navigating a complex level. Note any differences in your ability to follow narrative cues and react to environmental hazards.
- Spread upgrades across all heroes to keep the team versatile.
- Review the skill descriptions before assigning points to understand each effect.

Level Re‑Visit After Upgrades
After unlocking new abilities, return to an earlier level. Document any new interactions that become possible, highlighting how progression alters level engagement.
- Adjust subtitle size if dialogue becomes hard to read during action.
- Balance music and effects volumes to keep important sound cues audible.
