Plan your next The King is Watching session
This guide offers five observation‑focused exercises that let you explore the core systems of The King is Watching using data you can collect during play.
01 / THE GUIDE
Gaze Impact Log
Record which sector the king watches each time you change focus and note the immediate change in resource output. Plot the results to see how long productivity stays high before laziness appears.
- Focus the gaze on a sector that is currently low on its primary resource to boost its output.
- Rotate the gaze before a sector’s productivity begins to wane to maintain a steadier overall flow.
02 / THE GUIDE
Resource Balance Tracker
Create a table listing water, wheat, stone, coal and silver quantities at regular intervals. Adjust the king’s focus and observe which adjustments keep all five columns within safe margins.
- Regularly check the current stock of each resource to spot impending shortages early.
- When a resource like coal is abundant, consider directing the gaze toward sectors that can convert it into useful output.

03 / THE GUIDE
Upgrade Outcome Journal
After each run, list the permanent upgrades you selected. Rank them by perceived impact on resource gain versus combat strength, then test the top choices in the next run to compare outcomes.
- Prioritize upgrades that improve resource efficiency early, as they benefit every subsequent run.
- Consider defensive upgrades later if early runs reveal strong enemy pressure.
04 / THE GUIDE
Council Alignment Review
Note which council specialist (cavalry master, arcane sage, strategist) you emphasized in a run and record the resulting performance of related units or abilities.
- When planning a new run, note which advisor type matches the focus you intend to pursue—mobility, magic or strategy.
- Use the council’s expertise as a reference point when deciding where to invest upgrades.
05 / THE GUIDE
General Counter Template
For each battle, write down the enemy general’s dominant unit type and the counter‑unit mix you employed. Refine a flexible template that can be quickly adapted to future generals.
- Maintain a flexible unit composition that can be adjusted quickly when a new general appears.
- Observe the enemy’s dominant unit type during the first moments of combat and respond with appropriate counters.
