Plan your next ODDADA session
Our independent guide walks you through ODDADA’s documented systems—layered building, randomised tools, cassette handling, audio export, and controller use—so you can develop a personal workflow that highlights the game’s expressive potential without relying on hidden shortcuts.
01 / THE GUIDE
Layer Listening Drill
Create a short track, then mute each layer in turn. Compare the full mix with each isolated part to understand how individual layers contribute to the overall sound.
- Listen to each newly added layer before proceeding to hear how it blends with existing parts.
- Use the finale arrangement step to experiment with different ordering of previously placed layers.
02 / THE GUIDE
Instrument Variety Test
Play several runs back‑to‑back, recording which instruments appear. Note preferred timbres and experiment by reusing them in later compositions.
- Approach each new instrument as an opportunity to expand your musical vocabulary.
- Compare how the same melodic idea sounds when played on different randomly supplied instruments.

03 / THE GUIDE
Cassette Design Challenge
After finishing a song, design a cassette cover that reflects the track’s mood. Use the visual customisation tools to match colors and icons with the music’s tone.
- Create a visual theme for each cassette that matches the mood of the music inside.
- Rearrange tracks on a cassette to explore alternative song structures before finalising.
04 / THE GUIDE
Export Quality Check
Export a track, then play it on at least two different audio players. Observe any differences in volume or clarity, and adjust in‑game levels if needed.
- Export after you have finalised the cassette arrangement to capture the intended order.
- Test the exported file on multiple playback devices to verify consistent quality.
05 / THE GUIDE
Controller Comfort Session
Spend a session using only a gamepad, noting which button combinations feel most natural for instrument selection and layer placement. Adjust your grip based on comfort.
- Experiment with different controller grips to find a comfortable way to select instruments and place layers.
- Observe how the game responds to various controller inputs to determine the most efficient navigation method.
