Plan your next Hollow Knight: Silksong session
Use your next Silksong session to make one difficult part of Pharloom feel familiar. Choose a nearby route you can revisit, clear the ordinary enemies along it, and finish with one specific question about Hornet's movement or equipment answered. Keep the goal small enough that you can compare your first and final attempt. The exercises below turn exploration, tools, and boss practice into separate experiments, so each return trip has a useful purpose.
01 / THE GUIDE
Map one complete return loop
Start from a familiar resting point and choose an unexplored branch. At each junction, identify the direction that leads home before advancing. Return using the same route without consulting a new guide. Count the places where you hesitated, then revisit just those transitions until the route becomes recognizable in both directions.
- Stop on stable ground before opening menus.
- Mark the reason a route is blocked, not just its location.
- Learn the return path before carrying valuable resources deeper.
02 / THE GUIDE
Defeat an enemy with a fixed punish
Choose an ordinary enemy close to a safe route. Allow its first attack to finish, answer with one short sequence, and move away. Repeat without extending the sequence, even when another hit looks possible. When the exchange feels predictable, test one additional attack and compare the risk with the extra progress.
- Practice surviving an unfamiliar sequence before adding attacks.
- Test aerial attacks where a missed input is recoverable.
- Choose healing windows by enemy recovery, not only by your health.

03 / THE GUIDE
Give one tool an explicit job
Select an available tool and write down the situation you expect it to solve. Test it on a familiar encounter where a missed use is recoverable. Observe the distance, recovery, and resources involved. Keep it equipped only if you can describe a practical improvement over your previous response to that situation.
- Read the equipped tool's description before a boss attempt.
- Test its recovery time away from hazards.
- Compare tools against an identified problem.
04 / THE GUIDE
Bundle two nearby exploration tasks
Before leaving a settlement, choose a nearby task and one unresolved route that can share the same journey. Complete the task first, then investigate the route while you still know the return path. End by recording one newly opened connection or the exact obstacle that stopped further progress.
- Review nearby tasks before returning to a settlement.
- Check opened shortcuts from both directions.
- Record a next step before ending the session.
05 / THE GUIDE
Practice one boss response per attempt
Choose the attack that causes your most frequent hits. During the next attempt, prioritize recognizing that attack and reaching a safe position afterward. Judge the attempt by that response rather than the boss's remaining health. Change a single movement or timing choice before trying again, keeping equipment consistent for comparison.
- Name the attack you are practicing before entering.
- Change one response after each failure.
- Explore an unfinished branch when attempts stop producing new information.
