Plan your next Cairn session
Our independent guide focuses on mastering Cairn’s core systems—climbing, route planning, survival and narrative—without relying on hidden tricks. By practicing each element deliberately, you can approach Mount Kami with confidence and enjoy the story as it unfolds.
01 / THE GUIDE
Hold Identification Drill
Spend a session observing the mountain from the base and mark potential hand and foot holds on a sketch. This visual practice sharpens your ability to spot viable holds quickly once you start climbing.
- Begin on a lower difficulty to become comfortable with hold placement before tackling tougher sections.
- Observe how your posture changes affect movement to improve stability on difficult walls.
02 / THE GUIDE
Route Comparison
Select two distinct paths to the summit and list the required gear, distance and difficulty for each. Comparing the data helps you choose the route that best conserves resources while matching your skill level.
- Survey the entire face before committing to a line; early scouting saves time and effort.
- Consider alternate routes that may provide easier holds or better opportunities for gear placement.

03 / THE GUIDE
Resource Allocation Test
Before a climb, allocate a fixed amount of pitons, food and water. Track how long you last and adjust future allocations based on the outcome, improving your survival planning for longer ascents.
- Gather food and water early to avoid scarcity during later stages of the climb.
- Place bivouacs in sheltered locations to minimise the need for additional medicine.
04 / THE GUIDE
Bivouac Placement Practice
Identify three sheltered locations on the mountain and set up temporary camps. Evaluate each spot for safety, proximity to resources and exposure, then use the best option for future long‑term climbs.
- Listen to each companion’s story; they may hint at useful resources or safer routes.
- Reflect on Aava’s choices after dialogue to deepen immersion, even though they do not change gameplay.
05 / THE GUIDE
Narrative Engagement
After each dialogue encounter, write a brief note on what you learned about the mountain or Aava’s motivations. This reinforces story context and may reveal subtle hints without affecting gameplay.
- Enable subtitles if dialogue becomes hard to follow during intense climbing moments.
- Use Save Anytime before attempting a risky section to protect your progress.
